I want to help as many people as possible to transform their lives because I know how bold moves in my life changed everything.

I WAS BORN IN GOVERNADOR
VALADARES, BRAZIL.

Money was scarce, and we had no safety net, but my mother never let her circumstances stop her. She moved through them instead of avoiding them, working day after day to provide for my sister and me.

Before I ever practiced the skills embodied in The Bold MoveTM, I saw my mother live them out on a daily basis.

IT WASN’T UNTIL I WAS 15 THAT I LEARNED HOW TO PUSH THROUGH DISCOMFORT MYSELF.

I went to live with my grandmother in a new, much larger city to get a better education. I was excited to make new friends at first, but it wasn’t easy and I was scared to talk to strangers. I began avoiding my problem, and it made the problem worse. I stopped trying and withdrew into isolation.

Fortunately, my grandmother saw this and decided to help me navigate this situation (whether I wanted her to or not). She took me to the mall, bought me my first Chinese meal, and then announced we were going to eat our lunch with a stranger...a stranger who didn’t look like she wanted company!

It was awkward, it was uncomfortable, and it didn’t magically solve my problem. But then we did it again, and again, and again, until one day I realized I was looking forward to lunch.

NOT ONLY WAS I NOT SCARED
ANYMORE, I ACTUALLY ENJOYED

My grandmother helped me overcome my shyness, but more importantly, gave me a framework for how to push through discomfort when I felt nervous, stressed, or scared.

It helped me make friends as an exchange student in Buffalo, NY, who barely spoke English. (Short version: I joined the ski team as a non-skiing Brazilian!) It’s how I earned my PhD and became an Associate Professor at Harvard.

AND IT’S WHY TODAY I LOVE MEETING NEW PEOPLE, SPEAKING ON STAGE, AND MAKING MEDIA APPEARANCES.

Making bold moves has fueled my passion for helping others push past the barriers in their own lives. I became a speaker, author, and global media figure so that I could help as many people as possible learn the skills I teach in The Bold MoveTM.

After all, if they can help a shy girl who grew up in South American poverty earn a PhD in clinical psychology, land a job at Harvard, and become a global media figure, they can help anyone, including you.
